An overview of the first class of VSFX 406 and the object I chose to bring to show-and-tell

My Today was the first day of VSFX 406: Concept Development for Visual Effects. This strikes the beginning of me Senior year as a Visual Effects major at SCAD, and the start of developing exciting ideas for my senior thesis. Before class, we were instructed by our professor, Joe Pasquale, to bring something interesting to class for show-and-tell which would be later used as an early exercise for our minds in story-telling and creative thinking.

After careful deliberation, I chose to bring in a music box that was gifted to me. The music box is fairly simple and has a lid which opens to reveal the mechanical instrument inside as well as the lyrics to the music playing. The song is called "Leaves from the Vine" from my favorite childhood cartoon "Avatar the Last Airbender".

What if...

Now, using this music box, what story could I create that would make it more interesting? Could the music box lure people into a trance? Perhaps it was the beloved treasure of a tough, guarded character who had a soft side for sweet music? (Hmmm.... reminds me of Davy Jones.) One of my favorite stories we entertained in class was that there was a tiny person inside the box making the sound we hear when we turn the knob. Is he trapped? Does he like playing music or dread it? So many possibilities...
