Week 1
THE MILL X SCAD
Welcome to my process blog for The Mill x SCAD Collaboration!
During this 10 week simulated real-world environment, I will work with a team of 4 other talented artists to create a collaborative storytelling commercial of a vehicle. With a slightly leaning open-ended prompt that revolves around a photorealistic vehicle and variety within the environment, there are an array of different oppurtunities to build our visual elements:
What are we telling the audience and why should we care about it
Tell stories through the environment, maybe through materials (rust/wear/etc)
Incorporate visual elements like a timelapse, season change, or another type of transition
Mix scales of elements to introduce something surreal or unexpected, but still a photo-real context as far as the vehicle and materials
Choose from the following:
Storytelling through materials
Using an unexpected environment
Time-Lapse
Mixed scale
Season change
With this prompt in mind, our team spent the week storyboarding and concept developing to create a commercial that would highlight all of our individual skills and make for a creative storytelling challenge. First and foremost, let's meet the team members on TEAM RETRO!

After discussing ideas with the team and throwing around different vehicles to use, we landed on the timeless Vespa! With a rich history dating as far back as 1946 (immediately following World War 2), this vehicle was founded in Florence, Tuscany, and is a luxury Italian motor scooter produced by Piaggio.
History of the Vespa
While in the story making phase of our pitch, we had to repeatedly ask ourselves, Why Vespa? What makes Vespa unique and important for the project we want to create instead of any other vehicle? With this in mind, we wanted to center our commercial around a story that would only fit the history behind Vespa.
